The Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC) presents Asian American writer Amy S. Kwei as she reads her new book “A Concubine for the Family: A Family Saga in China”.
The novel covers a tumultuous era in Chinese history beginning in 1937 and ending in 1941. It explores the circumstances surrounding the true-life event of Kwei’s grandmother's gift of a concubine to her grandfather on his birthday. This is also a story of family solidarity and feminine heroism in times of war and destruction.
