MARTXA '09 CONTRA EL TAV

Desde el sábado día 5 hasta el 12 de Septiembre, una marcha recorrerá el trazado de las obras del Tren de Alta Velocidad entre Gazteiz y Bilbao que está acometiendo el Ministerio de Fomento. Se trata de una iniciativa que parte de todo tipo de grupos locales opositores a esta infraestructura.

Partiendo de Gasteiz la tarde del sábado 5, la intención de esta marcha es triple: por un lado, ofrecer la oportunidad de conocer de primera mano los estragos causados por las obras del TAV, así como conocer las zonas aún no dañadas que sucumbirían de seguir con este despropósito socioambiental; por otro lado relacionar este proyecto con muchos otros (autovías, autopistas, circunvalaciones, superpuertos, líneas de muy alta tensión, térmicas, gaseoductos...) que lo acompañan en el espacio y el tiempo en esta locura desarrollista en que se ha convertido nuestro actual sistema político-económico y reflexionar sobre cómo acabar y apartarse definitivamente de él; y por último, estrechar lazos entre todas aquellas personas y grupos que deseen aunar fuerzas y recursos para pasar a la ofensiva y paralizar las destrucciones de este proyecto injusto en lo social y dilapidador de ecosistemas en lo ambiental; asimismo, a lo largo de la marcha habrá la oportunidad de realizar distintos tipos de actividades de denuncia del TAV.

Cuando la crisis actual en ciernes (que es social, ambiental y económica) ha mostrado nítidamente que el sistema capitalista (crecimiento perpetuo) además de criminal, injusto y ambientalmente inviable se ha topado con límites físicos (energéticos, recursos naturales y sumideros) y la clase político-empresarial dominante está más obtinada que nunca en ahondar más en el camino al abismo con una batería de proyectos megalomanos en progresión ascendente hacia la barbarie desarrollista, nuestro deber pasa inexorablemente por comunicar-concienciar a las personas sobre ello y unirnos en la reflexión y la acción para parar este monstruo. En este momento es más necesario que nunca que la lucha vaya amplificándose y siga hacia adelante hasta desarraigar del imaginario colectivo este mal llamado ?progreso? como crecimiento material y ?desarrollo? como destrucción del medio natural que es la base de la vida.

La participación en la marcha está abierta a quien quiera sumarse a ella, y para eso se informará del lugar de salida y hora en lodos los pueblos.

In solidarity with Immigrant Rights groups and Workers Unions across the nation, RESIST THE RAIDS! is organizing a Direct Action during Labor Day weekend, to bring attention to the recent spikes of Racism, Repression, and Discrimination against our communities of color.

We want to raise awareness of the dehumanizing impacts the US Immigration System places on immigrants, refugees, and people of color. We refuse to be silent while serious issues related to Raids, Detention, Deportations, and Migrant Workers continue to go unnoticed!

WHEN
SATURDAY, SEPT. 5th @ 2PM
Participants will gather at Quincy Market (near Haymarket T stop).

WHERE
The procession will start at Quincy Market, and end in Copley Square. Along the way, we will make stops at key-locations to disseminate flyers and informational handouts, educate passer-byers, and reach out to others who would like to join the demonstration. We will also use this time to outreach for RESIST THE RAIDS!' Labor Day BBQ event.

"Key locations" are areas known to have a high level of foot-traffic during the day.

WHY
2.7 MILLION families have been torn apart by I.C.E. since 1997.

According to Amnesty International, more than 400,00 men, women, and children are detained by US immigration authorities each year. The majority of Immigration Detainees are held by state and county jails under agreements with the federal agency. They include asylum seekers, torture survivors, victims of human trafficking, longtime lawful permanent residents, parents of US citizens, and "criminal aliens" who have committed minor crimes.

The United States has the highest documented incarceration rate and prison population in the world. Incarceration rates continue to rise, and private detention centers make profit housing "Criminal Aliens."

Peoples in detention are refused their most basic human rights. Among many other violations, detainees have reported that there is a lack of access to bathrooms; unhealthy food and dirty water; difficulties in receiving visits from lawyers and family members; the disposal of personal belongings and legal documents by Immigration Authorities; no access medical treatment; malnourishment; rape and physical abuse from detention guards and officials.

International human rights law mandates that all workers have basic rights that should be protected, including undocumented as well as documented workers. In the United States however, immigrant workers find that while their work is accepted, their rights are not.

The real-life consequences of workers’ immigration status spilled into every area investigated by Human Rights Watch – health and safety, workers’ compensation, and workers’ organizing rights. One Smithfield Foods worker told Human Rights Watch, “In the packing department everything is fast, fast (rapido, rapido). I was sick a lot from the cold and the damp. I never wanted to make a claim against the company because they fire people and they might call Immigration.”
