The Peace Path

The Peace Path stretches along Charles St. from Conway St. in the Inner Harbor north to the Beltway. We hope that you will gather a group of friends, neighbors, and colleagues and help ensure a complete, solid path of peace.
Stand on the sidewalk with a positive sign of peace so that motorists will never be out of sight of people standing for peace and an end to violence.

*בחודש האחרון קמה נציגות עובדים חדשה במרכז הלוגיסטי של רשת הביגוד "קסטרו"*.
העובדים התארגנו כדי לשפר את שכרם, שנשחק בשנים האחרונות עקב עליית המחירים
בעוד שכרם נותר קפוא במשך שלוש השנים האחרונות, ולקבל פיצוי הולם בעבור עבודה
בשעות חג ולילה. חשוב מכל הם התארגנו כדי שיוכלו להגן על תנאיהם ואף לשפרם
בעזרת הסכם קיבוצי. יש לציין כי העובדים הם בעלי משפחות ודורשים להתפרנס בכבוד.

לאחר מספר פניות של נציגות העובדים (שמייצגת רוב מוחלט מקרב העובדים) באמצעות
עו"ד איתי סבירסקי מהקליניקה למשפט ורווחה באוניברסיטת ת"א, בבקשה לקיים ישיבה
בה תפרוס נציגות העובדים בפני ההנהלה את דרישותיה, *סירבה ההנהלה ב"נימוס", תוך
שהיא מפעילה לחצים ואיומים על עובדים ובמיוחד על נציגות העובדים*. סירובה העיקש
של ההנהלה לפניות הנציגות, שנעשו תוך הפגנת סבלנות גדולה מצד העובדים, מהדהד
באוזני כל מי שזכויות דמוקרטיות בכלל וזכויות עובדים בפרט חשובים לו. *סירוב זה
הוא בעצם פגיעה חמורה בזכותם של עובדים להתארגן - זכות דמוקרטית בסיסית *. * *

*הלחץ, שיצרה ההתארגנות, גרם להנהלה לנקוט בצעד של העלאת שכר (10-15%)* לעובדים
אשר חתמו על תמיכתם בהקמת נציגות העובדים כנראה כדי לנסות ולהרגיע את המצב
ולשכנע את העובדים שאין להם צורך בהתארגנות. *בשיחות אישיות הודיעו לכל עובד
בנפרד על העלאת שכרו והדגישו כי "זה לא בגלל הוועד". אך מכיוון שחודש קודם לכן
סירבה ההנהלה בכל תוקף להעלאת שכר, הגיעו העובדים למסקנה המתבקשת שהעלאת השכר
היא אך ורק תודות ללחץ שיצרה ההתארגנות *. כמובן, שההנהלה לא טרחה לתת העלאות
שוות לכל עובד, בניסיונה לפלג בין העובדים, ובכך הפלתה חלק מהעובדים, ייתכן שעל
רקע הובלת ההתארגנות וייתכן שעל רקע אישי. *ההנהלה* *עדיין מסרבת להכיר
בנציגות העובדים ולקיים עמה פגישה *.

*מתחיל המאבק הציבורי כנגד הנהלת "קסטרו" *

*מטרות המאבק הן:*

· להביע סולידאריות עם עובדי "קסטרו" ולחזק אותם במאבקם הצודק כנגד
ההנהלה

· ליצור לחץ ציבורי על הנהלת "קסטרו" להכיר בנציגות העובדים ולחדול
מכל איום ולחץ המופעל על העובדים

· להעלות את נושא התארגנות עובדים על סדר היום הציבורי ולעודד עובדים
נוספים להתארגן במקום עבודתם

On September 11th, political rock powerhouse, Sonic Resistance Movement will be holding a free musical event, "No Terror, No Empire" at Club Doctor in Shinjuku. (www.clubdoctor.co.jp). The event's theme surrounds the causes of the 9-11 terrorist attacks and the assault on our rights and freedoms in their wake. Music, video, and presentations will be included in the program.

A number of community organizers and collectives from San Diego, CA are collaborating with organizations across the continent on an action camp effort to directly confront the injustices, violence and environmental degradation that the U.S./Mexico border embodies. Direct action, Independent Media broadcasting, workshops, art, music and speakers are being planned during the week of November 5-11, 2007.

The No Borders Camp will be in the Calexico/Mexicali borderland region. The Imperial/Mexicali valley is a leading producer of agricultural products for the U.S.A, houses dozens of multinational corporate Maquiladoras, has three toxic bodies of water that flow throughout the region and an Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) detention center where migrant people are held for months to years. This No Borders Camp will be directly contributing to building community and awareness around the issues facing this region. Organizers are working to incorporate and exemplify the strong connections between the struggles people face in the borderlands and the realities communities face across the continent.

Most of the media's attention on immigrant issues today is concentrated on marches and legislation. However, the history and future of violence against immigrant people from Latin America is rooted in the displacement of farmers, natural resource extraction in remote communities, unlivable wages and state sanctioned violence to push the political agendas of governmental and capitalist entities. The strategic displacement of communities, to gain access to their resources, and subsequently to their cheap labor, is the driving force behind paramilitary violence in Mexico today. In fact, the violent displacement of communities of color around our world is directly connected to the political and economic forces at play in the Calexico/Mexicali region. This is an imposition that reduces human life to a mere variable in an economic equation, and a disposable variable at that.
