Benefit Concert for Indigenous Peoples

All of the money raised at the event will help support the Encounter of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas (www.encuentroindigena.org) which will take place in October in the state of Sonora, Mexico. The musical groups at the concert will be Kanari (rock en español), Guaraca (son jarocho) and a salsa group that will provide free lessons. Traditional Mexican food will be sold at the event. Photos and documentaries will also be shown from the Other Campaign that was started by the Zapatista indigenous movement from southern Mexico. Tickets are $3 presale and $5 at the door. The concert is being organized by La Otra San Diego, a coalition of adherents to the Zapatista's Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle.

Sapphic Cinema is a free movie night for LBT women. Come with a date, or come alone and meet someone new. This is a popular activity for a low-key but good time after a long day of work. Concessions will be available for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Women's Resource Center.

About Stranger Inside:

Written and directed by Cheryl Dune, the same mastermind behind Watermelon Woman, Stranger Inside tells the story of Treasure Lee, who has been serving time for her crimes since her teenage years. Reaching adulthood she is now being transferred to an adult maximum security prison. Here she is taken in by Brownie, a woman who has been hardened by a life behind bars. Treasure joins Brownie and a sisterhood of female inmates who protect one another from the harsh realities on the inside. Entering this world, Treasure is about to discover that being in a protected family can also bring an individual closer to danger.

We are calling for this march to demonstrate that we are a significant and growing portion of the lgbtiq community; to increase our visibility and presence in the tgiqlb community and the overall community at large; to encourage more trans and gender-variant people to come out; to build connections among ftm, mtf, bayot, crossdressers, sadhin, hijra, transvestites, bantut, drag queens, drag kings, mahu, transsexuals, bakla, travesti, genderqueers, kathoey, two spirit, intersex and those with other labels for themselves and no labels for themselves, those who see gender as having more than two options, and those who live between the existing options; to support one another as a community, through all of our struggles; to speak out against violence, hate, transphobia, and the oppression of any and all of us under the existing social structure; and to be fabulous and powerful in the company of others that are fabulous and powerful.

Dress up, show up, bring signs, speak out, and be what happens!
