No Justice: Confronting Baltimore's Criminal Injustice System

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

From the unjust arrest of seven-year-old Gerard Mungo to the disproportionate number of blacks accused of killing whites on death row, it is clear that there is a problem with Baltimore’s so-called system of “justice.” Central Booking is overcrowded with people, many of whom are never even charged with a crime. The prisons are crammed full, not with violent criminals who are beyond redemption, but with victims of drugs and poverty. The people of Baltimore who are fighting just to scrape by are made the scapegoats for the city’s problems while money for jobs, education and health care are stolen from our communities to fund an illegal war in Iraq and to line the pockets of the CEOs at Constellation Energy. Real crimes, like the BGE rate hikes that will force people to choose between paying their electric bill and buying food for their families, are crimes that go unpunished. We have had enough! Please join us for this panel discussion and organizing meeting to find out what you can do to get involved in bringing real justice to Baltimore!

Speakers:
Walter Lomax, exonerated from a life sentence after spending 39 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit.

Naomi Long, Drug Policy Alliance, DC/MD/VA Project Director

End the Occupations of Iraq and Palestine Vigil

5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

End the Occupations of Iraq and Palestine
Time: 5:00 pm
Location: Marshall Avenue/Lake Street Bridge over the Mississippi River.

Event Description: This is the weekly vigil on the Marshall/Lake Street Bridge to protest the war in Iraq. Because June 6-11 is the 40th anniversary of Israel's 6 day war and the beginning of the occupation of Palestine, the weekly vigil to protest the war in Iraq will add the focus
of ending the occupation of Palestine. In addition to the signs usually provided, people concerned about Palestine will bring signs to highlight the connection between the two occupations.

Suggested wording:

End the Occupations of Iraq and Palestine
U.S. out of Iraq - Israel out of Palestine

Sponsored by Twin Cities Peace Campaign - Focus on Iraq and Middle East Peace Now; endorsed by WAMM- ME and other peace groups

Vigil is 5-6 followed by a circle (Gather on the East - St. Paul side) for announcements and solidarity.

Info: Florence Steichen, 651-696-1642

Location:
Marshall Avenue/Lake Street Bridge over the Mississippi River.
