"DRUMS FOR PEACE" & "BUSH HAS NO MANDATE"
Hello everyone,
The organizing committee for the "DRUMS FOR PEACE" anti-war contingent with the KING march on Jan 17 and for the "BUSH HAS NO MANDATE" counter-inaugural march and rally from CNN to the State Capitol on Jan 20th has launched a WEBSITE www.nomandateatlanta.org/ . Please check our website.
You can download our flyers for both of these events from our website and distribute them anywhere you are able. We only have a couple of weeks to go to reach OUR GOAL -- WHICH IS TO BRING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE OUT IN THE STREETS for these events.
We, the individuals and organizations who STAND for human needs, human rights, civil liberties and other worthy causes need to get our there by the thousands to show the supporters of Bush administration policies and our own local government officials and representatives THAT THE MAJORITY OF GEORGIANS DON'T SUPPORT these militaristic and inhumane policies.
In our website we also have a page for organizations who would like to endorse the Counter-Inaugural march and rally on Jan 20th, and a page for volunteers and tasks they can help us with.
Please help us to get the word out. We would like to make January, 2005 a TURNING POINT in the presidency of George W. Bush, as people rise up to say the Bush has NO MANDATE for his destructive policies, and he does not have the support of the majority of American people.
WE NEED YOUR HELP.
For peace and justice for all human beings,
PLEASE JOIN US
PLEASE HELP US TO GET THE WORD OUT THERE.
THANK YOU

A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

Atlanta JwJ's Worker's rights Board Hearing on MARTA Cuts
Hello all,
Jobs with Justice has a major event planned for Jan 20th. We are having our Worker's Rights Board Hearing on Jan 20th at 7p at Ebenezer Baptist Church! This Hearing will have local leaders like Tyrone Brooks, Vincent Fort, Rev Orange, Rev. Ken Samuel, Adelina Nichols, and more listening to testimony from MARTA employees, riders, and concerned residents.
The testimony will attempt raise the questions: What is the impact of service and job cuts on low income communities of color, on the disable community, on workers, on the environment, etc.? What is needed to improve the situation?
I think this issue is a grassroots issue. There is great potential for this campaign to weave aspects of the labor, immigrant, african american, faith, students, and environmental communites into a tapestry of cooperation around transit equity. This campaign takes on issues of racism, poverty, environment, oil addiction, workers rights, and self determination. That's why I urge you to come and encourage others to attend JwJ's event. The Save MARTA campaign is rooted in fertile grassroots soil. Put your time and energy into a local effort that can really bear fruit.

Meet Organic Farmers from Spoutwood, and watch a video
Potluck dinner at 5:30. Bring something healthful.
Guests include members of the Spoutwood Farm Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project, along with the organic farmer. You don't have to be a Spoutwood farm CSA member to attend.
At 8:00 or so, I'll show video of an interesting talk given by Percy Schmeiser at the 2003 Bioneers conference. (Extra credit if you already know who Percy Schmeiser is!) He'll tell of his experiences as a farmer dealing with Monsanto and their (lousy) policies on genetically engineered crops. I feel as passionate about sharing this video as I do about, well, say, CSA snow peas! (A reference better understood, I admit, by people who have enjoyed the snow peas from Spoutwood.)

A Call for Anti-War Actions in Washington, DC, January 20, 2005
Every morning, the sun rises up, penetrating and overcoming the darkness of night. What once was dark becomes bright, changed by the force of the sun's rays.
Our world is in darkness tonight, plagued with war, poverty, environmental destruction, and attacks on many of the liberties that so many of us hold dear. The darkness over our world has grown yet darker with the election of George W. Bush to another 4 years in office.
In the dark of the night, we need only wait for the sun. However, in the dark of our world, we cannot wait. If we are to see a new dawn, we must take action now. The DC Anti-War Network (DAWN) calls on the people of the world to RISE Against Bush and SHINE For A Peaceful Tomorrow.
We RISE
Against the needless slaughter in and occupation of Iraq;
Against the assault on civil liberties, as represented by such acts as the Patriot Act and the immoral detentions at Guantanamo Bay;
Against US support of the Israeli government's denial of human rights against the Palestinian people;
Against U.S. overthrow of Aristide in Haiti;
Against U.S. attempts to overthrow any other democratically elected leader, including Hugo Chavez in Venezuela;
Against any U.S. military action in Iran.
We SHINE
For a world that embraces peaceful dialogue instead of war;
For a world where we respect the liberty of all beings;
For a world that looks out for all those who are now oppressed, including the poor, women, racial minorities, workers, the disabled, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered, as well as the earth and its creatures;
For a world that embraces social justice;
For democracy and the autonomy of all people to have a full say in how they are governed;
For each other.
The Call
DAWN calls for people all over the nation and world to converge on Washington, DC, on the day of George W. Bush's Inauguration, January 20, 2005, for peaceful anti-war actions.
While DAWN is coordinating with many groups for a day of actions, DAWN calls additionally for these specific actions:
1. A permitted nonviolent anti-war rally followed by a march to Bush's inaugural parade route
2. A nonviolent civil disobedience die-in, following the rally, in memorial to the dead at the hands of Bush and his Administration
DAWN also calls for organizations, affinity groups, and individuals to partner with us in organizing these two actions.
Next Steps
If you or your group or organization wants to endorse DAWN's call to action, please send an e-mail to info-AT-dawndc.net. Write also if you wish to collaborate in the planning or offer financial donations or other material support.
Find out more information about DAWN's and other groups' actions at www.counter-inaugural.org, by participating in the DC Cluster Spokescouncil meetings (refer to website), or by participating in DAWN's weekly meetings. Check our website, www.dawndc.net for more details. Housing boards, events boards, working group information, and (soon) ride boards can be found at www.counter-inaugural.org. We will post updates of our actions, as they become available, to that website.
The new dawn begins with our rising up. It will take a lot of light to break through such darkness, but we can do it. We have no other choice. Join us on J20!

Tribute to Guerilla filmmaker
Guerilla filmmaker Sarah Jacobson passed away last year at the too-young age of 32. She was an important voice in independent, underground film, and a real champion of DIY filmmaking. While Sarah may no longer be with us, her films live on, and we celebrate her work with three special days of programs.
Thurs Jan 20 7:30 - Sarah Shorts And I Was A Teenage Serial Killer
This retrospective of Sarah's short films was curated by Jacobson herself and includes early Pixelvision work, TV spots, the riot-grrrl masterpiece I WAS A TEENAGE SERIAL KILLER, which she described as a film that she described as the story of "a 19-year-old girl who has a series of run-ins with various condescending men." Also showing is the indie documentary THE FABULOUS STAINS: BEHIND THE MOVIE, on a certain cult classic also showing this weekend.
Fri Jan 21 midnite - Mary Jane's Not A Virgin Anymore
Sarah's debut feature was a hit at Sundance and other film festivals across the country. It follows Jane, a high school student who works at the local arthouse movie theater, as she learns about life, love, masturbation and sex. Especially sex. "I fell for Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore, a first feature that's as awkward, raucous and eager as its protagonist." - Amy Taubin, Village Voice "Sarah's funny and true portrayal of deflowered girldom has all the scary awkward grace and hectic thrill of this most freaked out rite of passage." - Kim Gordon, bass player for Sonic Youth.
Sat Jan 22 midnite - Ladies And Gentlemen The Fabulous Stains
If it weren't for Sarah's love of this spunky-punky lost classic, a whole generation may have missed out on the best angry girl rock film ever made. The year is 198__ and angry teenager Corinne "Third Degree" Burns (a really young Diane Lane) decides to form a Shaggs-esque with her cousin (and also very young Laura Dern) and sister and hit the tour bus with an angry British punk band - played by actual members of the Clash and the Sex Pistols, and fronted by Ray Winstone (QUADROPHENIA, SEXY BEAST). In true angry grrrl fashion, they beat the old white men at their own game and become an overnight sensation with song titles like "Waste of Time" and catch phrase "We don't put out!" An amazing cult classic not available on video!
Location:
Coolidge Corner Theatre
Cost: $6 each
Directions:
By train: take the Green Line (C branch to Cleveland Circle) trolley from downtown to Coolidge Corner via Beacon Street. The Coolidge Corner stop is at Harvard Street, 5-10 minutes from Kenmore Square.
By bus: take bus #66, Dudley/Harvard Square.
All buses and trolleys stop at the Harvard Street/ Beacon Street intersection.
Both lines are also on the night owl route - operating until 2:00am on Friday and Saturday nights.
From Mass Pike, 90: Take exit 18 Allston/Brighton. As you exit tolls, stay to left for Allston exit and merge with Cambridge St. Follow until you reach Harvard Ave on your left, after the overpass at the intersection with the frightening "Captain Fishbones" sign. Take the left onto Harvard Ave and follow through Allston and across Commonwealth Ave, continuing for about 1.5 miles. Just before reaching the major intersection of Harvard and Beacon St, you will notice our giant theatre marquee on your right.
From Interstate 93: Take the Storrow Drive exit and follow to Storrow Drive (this navigation changes periodically because of Big Dig construction, so watch for the signs). Take Storrow Drive to the Kenmore Square exit. As the exit splits, stay in the right hand lane. Take the first right onto Beacon St. Follow Beacon St through Kenmore Square (past the legendary Citgo sign), staying in the center lane. After you cross the overpass, keep going straight ahead, following the trolley tracks along Beacon St until you reach the intersection of Beacon and Harvard St, landmarked by a large Tudor style building with a clocktower (and a Walgreens) on the corner. You'll see us one half block up Harvard, but continue on Beacon to Center St and turn right to access our parking lot behind the building.
From Route 9: Route 9 inbound to the Brookline Village/Harvard St intersection. The Brookline fire station is on your right. Go through the intersection and take a right immediately after the fire station, and loop around the back. You can now turn right and cross back over Route 9 onto Harvard St. Follow Harvard St through Brookline Village, about one mile to Beacon St. Cross Beacon St and you will immediately see our marquee on your left. Parking is along Beacon, or go around the block and enter the lot behind our building on Center St.

Rochester's Inaugural Bawl -A Counter-Witness
Even if you won't be traveling to Washington, DC for Inauguration Day, you can still mourn the occasion. Join Rochester's counter-inaugural witness!
Pax Christi Rochester is taking up the suggestion for an Inaugural Bawl on Inauguration Day, January 20th. We invite others to join in a Vigil of Regret this Thurs.,at 4pm at the corner of Main and State Sts., downtown.
Our focus will be the on-going U.S. war on Iraq- a premptive war of aggression, an international crime of untold magnitude. We hope to represent the voice of many Americans, an alternative to the U.S. greed-based policies of regime change abroad and callousness toward the needs of our own impoverished U.S. citizens. We will speak our profound repentance regarding the slaughter of Iraqis- including the 100,000 killed Iraqi civilians ,mainly women and children, as estimated in October by the prestigous British medical journal ,The Lancet. We further express our concern for living Iraqis condemned by our policies to suffer without the necessities of potable water, adequate nutrition, sufficient electricity, and condemned to increased violence, a devastated culture and a ruined educational system.
We acknowledge our nation's failed policies of domination, we call for the withdrawal of troops, and we declare our responsibility to rebuild what we have destroyed in Iraq. Included in our concern are our brothers and sisters in the military in Iraq, whom we as a country are condemning to an agony of body and spirit during their time in service in Iraq, and an emotional agony which will continue for many long after their military service.
We entreat our fellow citizens, our educators, our government leaders and especially our members of the clergy to bravely and continuosly demand an end to war!
"To attain the good of peace there must be a clear and conscious acknowledgement that violence is an unacceptable evil and that it never solves problems." World Peace Day Message".
Signs are welcome, but please keep the focus on the war!

HUFF's Vigil Against Two Wars
HUFF shares space with Santa Cruz Copwatch in front of Borders Book Store. We also have a radio which plays Free Radio Santa Cruz's Bathrobespierre's Broadsides--a two hour civil rights show concerned with local human rights violations--from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Often we have access to a cellular phone to call in to the show and report police misconduct and other discrimination against the poor directly from the street.
We also circulate petitions urging City Council to take actions to end the War in Iraq and the War Against the Poor in Santa Cruz. The petitions urge the Rotkin City Council to loosen local laws so as to permit medical marijuana distribution centers, urge the Council to press for the impeachment of Bush, urge immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq, urge restoration of public spaces and benches downtown, and urge an end to the Sleeping, Blanket, and Camping Bans.
We also distribute literature as well as the monthly homeless newspaper Street Spirit.
HUFF activists also cook and distribute food, often vegan, which we pass out until the pot is empty.

1000 Drums for Peace at Lake Ella before 12:00 Noon
1000 Drums for Peace at Lake Ella 12:00 Noon (Tallahassee, FL)
We are gathering at Lake Ella a little before Noon on January 20, Inauguration Day, to join drummers around the country drumming for peace as Bush takes his oath of office. He is scheduled to take the oath at 12:00 Noon, so try and get there a little before that. We'll be around the Gazebo if possible, if not, just find the drumming.
Bring a drum, rattle or any ceremonial type instrument if you like. Mainly just bring yourself.
The rhythm we'll be doing is the heartbeat - about 60 beats per minute - easy, everyone can participate, even with soft clapping.
I'll be there at 11:30.
Please forward this to whoever you think might be interested.
many thanks,
bennett

1,000 Drums for Peace
I am writing this note to inform you of a project I am working on. ì1000 Drums for Peaceî On the day that the 1000th US soldier died in Bushís folly in Iraq I started thinking of ways for all progressive communities to unite, at least in spirit, in protest. Here is the plan. At the very moment the Bush begins taking his oath of office drummers and drum cricles all across the country will begin to play the same beat at the same time. United together in rhythm and protest
The goal is to have Drummers for Peace in each of the every state in the union. So far we have drummers in Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Colorado, California, North Carolina, Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Michigan, Texas, Illinois, and more... There is no telling how far this could go..... Imagine, Drummers across the country all united at the same time, with the same drum beat, a drum beat for Peace, a drum beat for freedom, a drum beat against the Bush Corp., the war in Iraq, and the cultural war being waged against all of our progressive communities. Make no mistake we are under attack and we all know it.
The event will be Jan. 20 as Bush starts his Oath of Office. He will begin with the word "I". That is when the drumming starts. The beat we will play is the heart-beat. Put your head on the chest of some one you love and play their heartbeat. We play our loved ones heart beat for peace.
If you and your circle would like to join in Please e-mail me and I will keep you up dated.

Location: 5858 Central Avenue
Don’t like the direction this country is headed? Can’t
get to DC to tell George Bush how you feel? Join St.
Pete for Peace for our local counter-inaugural event!
On Inauguration Day, January 20, 2005, people who
oppose the cruel and imperialistic policies of the
Bush administration will be traveling from all over
the country and arriving in Washington, DC to
preemptively protest four more years of neo-con
war-mongering, deceit and treachery. If you are
unable to travel to DC, please consider joining St.
Pete for Peace as we demonstrate our opposition to the
Bush Administration’s Reign of Terror.
Please wear black, bring drums or other noisemakers
and converge at Sembler Corporation, 5858 Central
Avenue, in St. Petersburg. Make your own signs or use
one of ours. Whether your cause is peace, civil
liberties, choice, civil rights, the environment, fair
trade or any other pro-people and anti-elitist cause,
you are invited!
Why Sembler? The Sembler Company represents the kind
of capitalist cronyism, environmental rape and
repression that spells trouble for all those who want
to see this country move in a more progressive,
people-centric, life-affirming direction. Mel Sembler
is one of Bush’s best buddies, a rapacious developer
and, as ambassador to Italy, is currently attempting
to spread the Bush Administration’s message of
corporate fascism for all throughout the European
continent. Let’s tell them all that we say “NO!”
