CAFTA- The Trojan Calf

All day

**Please forward**

Dear friends,

Never thought international trade laws would make you laugh? Check this out:
www.quixote.org/calf

It's a biting, two-minute movie called "CAFTA -- The Trojan Calf." Its
message -- that the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) has been
presented to Central America as a gift, but like the Trojan Horse, it's
really a vehicle for American corporations to secretly invade new markets.
It's an important story that will keep you smiling, and hopefully inspire
you to action. (Make sure you watch for the kicker at the end!)

After watching the movie you can join with thousands of others in
rejecting CAFTA by signing a full-page ad to appear in the NY Times the
first of June. Congress may vote on the agreement as early as July.

We hope you like the movie, and we encourage you to pass it along to your
family and friends.

The ESLP is pleased and proud to have as tonight's lecturer Satish Kumar,
a former Jain monk who, at the instigation of Vinoba Bhave, Gandhi’s chief
disciple, walked all over the world to plea for the elimination of nuclear
weapons. Satish is editor of Resurgence magazine, which has been one of
the pillars of environmental thinking since 1966, generating an ecological
awareness essential for human and planetary well-being and survival.

Next Monday, the ESLP will play host to Bolivian activist Marcela Olivera,
who helped lead a popular movement in her hometown of Cochabamba in what
has been called "the first successful struggle against water privatization
in the world." She is an outspoken proponent of community-based
ecopolitics, and works closely with her brother Oscar, the heroic
grassroots organizer of Bolivia’s dispossessed indigenous peoples. She
will be joined by William E. (Marks) Waterway, a world-renowned expert and
author in the quest for clean water and a healthy life.

The ESLP lectures take place every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. at Classroom
Unit 2. They are open to the public, so be sure to check them out!

Collective meeting - Tallahassee-RedHills IMC

6:00 PM - 8:30 PM

A. The following powers and duties are conferred on the Tallahassee-RedHills Collective; in no way should this record be considered exhaustive or exclusive.

1. Act as the primary venue for community involvement and input.
2. Establish the overall vision and focus of the Tallahassee-RedHills IMC.
3. Establish a yearly overall plan for the IMC on an annual basis.
4. Serve as the final decision making body in the case of disputes within any subdivision of the IMC.
5. Establish in conjunction with the Fundraising Working Group rules and procedures for the collection and expenditure of funds for the IMC.
6. Ratify any changes to the documents contained in the affiliation packet of the IMC.
7. Propose and/or ratify any changes to the Bylaws of the Tallahassee- RedHills Independent Media Center.

The IMC’s goal is to re-constitute our Collective, to bring new voices, new ideas and new energy to the IMC so that we can continue to evolve and better serve the people of this community. To that end we hope that we can count on you to join the Collective and find out more about the various tasks in which you expressed an interest at the Open House.

The first meeting of the “New Collective” will be held on Monday, May 3rd at 6:00 PM in Meeting Room A of the Leon County Library, downtown branch. At the meeting we will review the current bylaws and basic structure, have volunteers organize themselves into working groups based on their interests and do some brain storming about new projects and new directions. We reached out to several of you to try and find the best possible time and location and this is what we came up with. At the meeting we can all discuss future meeting times and locations to fit everyone’s schedules and transportation situation.

If you can’t make this meeting but would like to get involved please respond to this email and let us know what times work best for you for future meetings. Once the working groups are established we will forward your name and email address to the group(s) you expressed an interest in at the Open House.

It is important to note that there is no “entrenched management” at the IMC. This is YOUR VOICE, the IMC belongs to the community and everyone who is willing to give of their time and energy. Please come out and get involved. All are welcome!
