Protest the execution of Texas Governor Rick Perry to Stop
the Execution of Robert Rowell scheduled for November 15, 2005

Robert Rowell, a 50-year-old white man with 9 years of education, faces execution on November 15, 2005 in Texas. Rowell was convicted and sentenced to death for the May 10, 1993 capital murder in Harris County of Raymond Mata. Rowell had fomerly worked as a laborer.

Texas law requires that at sentencing the jury must decide whether a defendant poses a future danger to society in order for the defendant to be eligible for a sentence of death. Often the jury does not fully understand the law. In the case of Robert Rowell, the jury did not understand the issue of future dangerousness and did not know how long Rowell would be in prison before his first chance at parole. The judge refused to clarify these issues when the jury asked the judge to explain the law to them. It is very likely that if the judge had clarified this issue to the jury, they would have found that Rowell would not be a danger when paroled as an 84 year old man in 35 years—the earliest he would have an opportunity for parole.
In addition, since Rowell's conviction, Texas has changed its law to allow juries to sentence people to life without the possibility of parole. Either Life Without Parole or life with the possibility of parole when Rowell is 84, would be a more appropriate punishment for Rowell. If Rowell's trial were to take place today, it is highly likely that a contemporary Texas jury would spare his life and sentence him to life without the possibility of parole.

Please take this opportunity to petition Governor Perry to stop the execution, using the form below. A vigil will take place on the day of the scheduled execution, outside Governor Perry’s mansion, from 5:30-6:30 p.m, as well as in other cities throughout Texas.

Ihr alle wisst was in diesen Gefängnissen passiert, einschließlich jener die von Milizen und Parteien betrieben werden, die sich heute an der Regierung befinden. Anlässlich des Besuchs des irakischen Präsidenten in Österreich, bitten wir Euch im Namen der Opfer Euer Volk, Euer Parlament, Eure Regierung, Vereine, Parteien und politische Bewegungen anzurufen, dass sie Talabani veranlassen die politischen Häftlinge sofort freizulassen.“

Haj Ali ist der Mann in Kapuze und mit Elektroden an den Händen, dessen Bilder die Welt erschütterten. Heute lebt er im Exil in Amman und hat sich mit seiner Gefangenenhilfsorganisation zum Ziel gemacht, die Welt über die Geschehnisse in den US-Gefängnissen im Irak aufzuklären.

Doch in der EU ist die Wahrheit aus Sicht der Opfer nicht erwünscht. Zuerst wurde ein Visumsantrag in Italien abgelehnt, jetzt einer für Österreich. Umso gefährlicher, dass der Antragsteller ein für den ORF produzierendes Medienunternehmen war. Der vorauseilende Gehorsam gegenüber dem Großen Bruder ist scheinbar so groß, dass Österreichs Verpflichtung laut Genfer Konvention und nachfolgenden völkerrechtlichen Vereinbarungen, Folter zu verhindern, in den Wind schlägt.

Gleichzeitig lädt sich die Außenministerin die durch US-Kriege installierte Marionetten wie Talabani und Karzai ein, die dann auf dem Seminar „Islam in a Pluralistic World“ zur Freunde Washingtons darüber schwadronieren dürfen, wie erfolgreich der Demokratieexport mit weißem Phosphor nicht war.

Auch wenn unser Protest die Willfährigkeit der österreichischen Behörden nicht zu verändern mag, so soll niemand (abermals) sagen können, er habe nichts von den Verbrechen gewusst.

On Tuesday 15 November 2005, the Nation will have its biggest worker and community meeting protesting against the Federal Government's plans to change Australia's workplace laws.

The changes will affect all workers, including public sector workers, and their families.

The impact of the Federal Government's proposed Industrial Relations changes to legislation will result in South Australian workers, losing the current protection provided by State Awards, as a natural consequence of the abolition of the State Industrial Jurisdiction. Awards currently define many basic conditions such as penalty payments and leave.

On Tuesday 15 November 2005, the biggest Adelaide community event held in years will occur at Elder Park commencing at 8am. In another first, a Sky channel broadcast will enable workers, their families and the community across the Nation to unite against these proposals.

および自衛隊のイラク派兵の延長の確認などが行われようとしています。

まさにそれは、
日米両国が侵略戦争と新自由主義グローバリゼーションを推進し、
憲法改悪と連動して日本の戦争国家化をさらに強化していく
重大な会談になろうとしています。

私たちは、アジア－世界の労働者・民衆のたたかい、
沖縄をはじめとした各地の反基地運動に連帯し、

Join United Mountain Defense and other citizens and groups as we take back the public hearing process. TDEC thinks that they can muzzle the public and silence opposition to Mountaintop Mining in Tennessee. Prove them wrong! Come to the people's hearing and make your voice heard!

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has stifled public participation by herding citizens into closed-door rooms to testify at public hearings and not allowing them to speak directly and hear each other's comments. Despite numerous protests from UMD and others, TDEC still refuses to let the public be heard.

TAKE BACK THE PUBLIC HEARING PROCESSS!

At 6 p.m. UMD will host a People's Hearing on the Premium Coal Company Area 19 permits (for more information: www.unitedmountaindefense.org). These permits, if granted, will allow Premium Coal to destroy five intermittent streams and pollute and degrade the New River and the Big South Fork. The People's Hearing will begin an hour before the start of the official hearing and will feature well-known speakers, as well as an open mike for anyone wishing to testify. All comments will be recorded and submitted to TDEC as part of the permit record.

"Left of the Dial"--Documentary on "Air America"

Producers Patrick Farrelly and Kate O’Callaghan, whose documentary Left of
the Dial, an account of the first self-proclaimed left-wing commercial
radio station in the U.S., will screen their piece. A question-and-answer will follow the
screening.

Left of the Dial aired on HBO earlier this year to unanimous praise.

About the producers:

Former producers of both seasons of Michael Moore’s Emmy Award-winning
satirical series, TV Nation, Farrelly and O’Callaghan have a long and
distinguished record as journalists and documentarians.

Movie description:

In April 2004, just seven months before the presidential election, the
first self-proclaimed left-wing commercial radio station in the U.S., Air
America, began broadcasting. Its lofty aim was to take on right-wing talk
radio and help unseat the president.

However, just two weeks after the launch, Air America was facing financial
disaster and O’Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, et al. smirked with
satisfaction. Their nemesis, Al Franken, was going to be hung out to dry.

Miraculously, Air America was resurrected from the ashes to become one of
the most successful media launches of modern times. It failed to remove
George W. Bush from the White House but left the media opposition in its
wake.
