Animal Liberation Workshop for beginners

All day

Animal Liberation Workshop for beginners

Firmen,
bis zur revolutionären Veränderung der Mensch-Tier Beziehung.

Dieser Animal Liberation Workshop soll Hilfe zur Selbstorganisation und zum Aktivwerden für Tierrechte bieten. Du erfährst
Was Tierrechte sind
Was die Tierrechtsbewegung macht und erreichen will
Wie Du Dein eigenes Leben entsprechend verändern kannst
Wo Du in Deiner Region mithelfen kannst

Eintritt frei!
Veganes Mittagessen zum Selbstkostenpreis!

Location:
Volkshaus Kandlheim
Edlbacherstrasse 1 (am Andreas-Hofer-Platz)

Democracy School

All day

March 11 to March 13

Democracy School

Friday evening through Sunday early afternoon

Our February Democracy School filled up quickly, so we've scheduled a new one for March.

"Democracy School is eye-opening and mind bending. It combines historical, legal, and theoretical information on the corporation with a remarkably practical and powerful way of making change in your own community. Students get a notebook of valuable readings, lucid exposure to some of the most cutting-edge organizing strategies, and a nourishing experience of community with fellow activists. Anyone concerned about issues of corporate power and democracy should have this experience. You'll never be quite the same!"

Charlie Derber
Professor of Sociology, Boston College and author of Regime Change Begins at Home: Freeing America from Corporate Rule

Democracy School teaches citizens and activists ways of approaching and reframing exhausting and often discouraging single issue work (such as opposing toxic dumps, quarries, factory farms, etc.) in a way that we can all confront corporate control united on a powerful single front: people's constitutional and fundamental rights.

Massachusetts Democracy School is sponsored by the Center for Democracy and the Constitution in cooperation with the Program on Corporations, Law and Democracy (www.poclad.org) and CELDF.

Fee for the weekend is $275, with a group rate of $425 for two and $200 for each additional person. The fee includes all course materials and dinner on Saturday evening.

Some scholarships are available, please contact the office for further information. Special guest Richard Grossman of POCLAD will join the CDC staff for this session. The curriculum is online, or give us a call and we'll send you one. And if you have any questions, contact us at any time.

Enrollment is limited, so please register soon to ensure a space. Sign up online at:
www.constitution411.org/dem_schl.php=20

or write a check for the full amount with the notation "Massachusetts Democracy School" payable to "CDC", and mail to:

Center for Democracy and the Constitution
12 Locust Avenue
Lexington, MA 02421

The Center for Democracy and the Constitution is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Massachusetts dedicated to challenging corporate constitutional rights and bringing a vital living democracy to the United States of America.

Sounds of Dissent

11:00 AM - 12:00 AM

WZBC Boston College Radio 90.3fm

Produced by John Grebe and the WZBC News Staff

Show Description:
Too seldom we hear sounds of dissent in mainstream media. While no one honestly claims to have "all things considered," even our public broadcasting institutions have come to reflect their most privileged listener's interests. As they mine the wealthiest listener demographics to sell to their corporate underwriters, they distort the news. Let's clarify the crucial stories, views, and information excluded elsewhere. How can we build participatory non-commercial educational radio? Locally and globally, people are making sounds of dissent, independent of profit and advertising driven corporate bias. Please call or write in with your program ideas.

Past Featured Guests:

Noam Chomsky on the 12/16-18/98 U.S. bombing of Iraq.

Food Not Bombs

12:30 PM - 12:00 AM

Food Not Bombs shares free vegetarian food with hungry people and protests war and poverty throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Food Not Bombs is organizing for an end to the occupations of Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.

We also support actions against the globalization of the economy, restrictions to the movements of people and the destruction of the earth.

Food Not Bombs is an all volunteer organization dedicated to nonviolence.

Food Not Bombs has no formal leaders and strives to include everyone in its decision making process.

Each group recovers food that would otherwise be thrown out and makes fresh hot vegetarian meals that are served in city parks to anyone without restriction.

The groups also serve free vegetarian meals at protests and other events.

Food Not Bombs works in coalition with groups like Earth First!, The Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, Anarchist Black Cross, the IWW, Homes Not Jails, Anti Racist Action, In Defense of Animals, the Free Radio Movement and other organizations on the cutting edge of positive social change and resistance to the new global austerity program.

We hope you will join us in taking direct action towards creating a world free from domination, coercion and violence.

HI-Dentity

8:00 AM - 12:00 AM

October 14 through 16, 2005, HI-Dentity, a rapid-fire solo performance show by the Immediacy Theatre Project, will be unleashed on the Broadway Center of the Arts, 124 East Main Street, Belleville, Illinois 62260.
Eight members of the dangerously theatrical Immediacy Theatre Project (ITP) will grapple with their own neuroses as they lay siege to the very concept of identity. Personal, hilarious, vulnerable, voyeuristic, and more fun than a George W. Bush – Hilary Clinton face-off to the death, ITP’s newest venture seeks to dispel image and identity as a shield behind which to hide. HI-Dentity: real people talking. Really.
HI-Dentity will run October 14 and 15, 2005 at 8:00 PM, and October 16, 2005 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $10 for all shows. For ticket reservations and information, please call the Broadway Center of the Arts at (618) 233-0431. "Trois Jeux Corts" - an evening of original plays

8:00 AM - 10:30 PM

If you're wondering why St. Louis theatre doesn't usually contain advice-giving talking furniture, basement-dwelling superheroes, or ghosttown inhabitants named Chicken, then put your minds at ease! You can once again count on the Tin Ceiling to deliver theatre that is proud to have every weirdo on its wavelength. Even if you're NOT a weirdo, many have gotten just as much joy from pointing and laughing!

Trois Jeux Corts is three original one act plays:
"All Trains West Have Passed" by Robert Strasser,
"Ruby, Arizona" by Robin Garrels, and
"Sequential Heart" by Jason Lauderdale.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Plowhaus Artists' Cooperative presents
October 1 Wall / 1 Artist show

Nashville, TN - Plowhaus Artists' co-op presents the work of Brad
Blackman and
Denny Adcock. An opening reception will be held Saturday, October 15
from 7-11
pm.

This exhibit, a continuation of the Plowhaus 1 Wall 1 Artist series and
running concurrently with the SNAP Push Pin show features painter Brad
Blackman
and photographer Denny Adcock.

Blackman's art aims primarily to take ordinary things that we often
overlook
and show them in a new light. His highway images tend to show a
contrast between hard-edged construction and organic nature and the
eventuality of nature
reclaiming itself. The sleek modern world we live in will someday be
as
crumbled ruins.

Titled Ghosts of The Dixie, Adcock's photographs are part of a larger
body of
work centered around the historic Dixie Highway. Shot in a semi
documentary
style he has traced the evolution of the second "improved" interstate
highway
in the U.S. (circa 1915), and eventual decline of this important road.
Shot
in black and white, he feels these relate more to an archeological dig
than
mere documentation. Each image begs for further inspection beyond the
depth of
the visible and into the history.

Plowhaus Artists' Coop is located at 211 South 17th Street East
Nashville, TN
37206. For directions or more information call 615 262-2224 or visit

CAYUTA SUN BENEFIT (OCT 15)
TO REDIRECT ALL DONATIONS
TO HURRICANE DAMAGE REBUILDING IN GUATEMALA
THROUGH THE MESOAMERICAN PERMACULTURE INSTITUTE (IMAP)

REBECCA CUTTER OF IMAP TO SPEAK
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 6 PM

PLEASE FORWARD...

Friends and Colleagues,

For the last couple of weeks I've been reaching out and planning for a benefit on behalf of the Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute. The event promises to be
a relaxing, informative, and fun day and evening this upcoming Saturday (Oct 15). However, the benefit's purpose is changing a little and the funds are going to be entirely recommitted to a new need.

This weekend I received a call from Rebecca Cutter, of the Mesoamerican Permaculture Institute (IMAP) in Guatemala with news of the horrific and deadly landslides in her larger community of Lake Atitlan. She will be flying
into Syracuse on Friday night and speaking at the Cayuta Sun benefit Saturday at 6pm.

Below this message is the text of the letter she has just sent out seeking funds for the relief and rebuilding effort. I began my permaculture education with Rebecca, Rony Lec, and others who work with IMAP. I have some familiarity with the ways that IMAP can help with the rebuilding of the affected communities AND the funds that they will need to meet the challenge of using permaculture design to protect people from this type of disaster. In light of this, all the money raised this Saturday will be sent to IMAP for Hurricane Stan relief and rebuilding efforts.

IMAP was planning to host an international (Latin American) permaculture conference this November. It has been canceled and the organization is changing its focus to work solely with the affected communities for the next year. You can help their efforts by attending the benefit, or by sending your donations directly to IMAP.

While a more urgent and immediate cause will motivate this event, it will nonetheless continue as planned. Expect presentations and discussions on permaculture and sustainable design, dance and yoga classes, cob-oven bread
baking, and variety of other outdoor activities beginning at 10 am and ending before Rebecca Cutter's presentation at 6pm. Afterwards a campfire will be sparked and stoked well into the night. While we are asking for a $20 donation, even a few dollars will help and will be greatly appreciated.

text of letter:

October 08, 2005
San Lucas Tolimán, Guatemala

Dear Friends, Colleagues and Sponsors:

Surely by now you are aware of the devastating effects hurricane Stan has caused the Central American region. The Western Highlands of Guatemala and the Pacific Coast were struck by relentless rains for five days, resulting in
major landslides and the bursting of rivers, which swept away homes, roads, bridges and crops, leaving many communities without access to communications, basic supplies or medical attention. In the Lake Atitlán region, department of Sololá, all surrounding villages have been affected, specifically the two largest towns, Santiago Atitlán and Panajachel, with an estimated one thousand
deaths and hundreds of people missing.

We respectfully request your immediate financial support in attending to the urgent issues facing the community of Santiago Atitlán.

IMAP is an non-for-profit organization working with rural communities in the preservation of biodiversity, the establishment of food security and environmental education. We are located on the southern shore of Lake
Atitlan, 10 kilometers from Santiago Atitlán. Because of current conditions, we have suspended our planned activities in order to concentrate on relief and prevention efforts in coordination with the municipality of Santiago Atitlán and other local and international non-governmental organizations.

Our concern is for the immediate needs of families who are without water, food, sanitation, medical attention and housing. Currently, an estimated one thousand people are being housed in 10 provisional shelters where the sanitary
conditions pose a major health risk to the community. In light of our human resources and abilities, we have decided to concentrate our efforts in two areas: 1) securing food for at least one shelter and 2) installing water tanks
and purifying equipment for at least three shelters. To the extent possible, we will also work on sanitation issues with respect to the same three shelters, in terms of installing latrines. Donations received by IMAP will go
directly towards these efforts.
