Radical History Reading Circle - Summer FreeSkool!
Saturday, 28 July 2007
6:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Hi!
Interested in reading some good books and discussing them? You may have heard about the Ithaca Freeskool by now - it is a non-heierarchial, peer-to-peer (mostly adult oriented) learning environment for skill shares, projects, classes and discussion groups. This summer is our second term, and we have a great set of free classes for the community.
As part of the freeskool, we are beginning a Tuesday evening reading/discussion circle looking mostly at radical
history…the plan is to start with readings from Emma Goldman's
Anarchism and Other Essays, followed by parts of Howard Zinn's
(http://howardzinn.org) Peoples History of the United States.
With the nature and scope of the readings, we
feel it is especially important to try and make this group as open and
non-heierarchial as possible, but at the same time show that this will
not devolve into a flaky non-productive setting. So the class will be
open to moving in directions that participants consense on taking it.
Among other places on the web, you can find Emma's book at:
http://dwardmac.pitzer.edu/Anarchist_Archives/goldman/GoldmanCW.html
Zinn's book can be found at:
http://historyisaweapon.com/zinnapeopleshistory.html
with some other resources available at:
http://www.synaptic.bc.ca/ejournal/HowardZinn.htm
The first meeting will be important in trying to set the scope,
decision process, meeting places and curriculum/itinerary for the
group. While
drop-ins to the group are likely to alway be welcome, we hope if the
process for the group is important to folx, that they will try to make
it
to the first meeting.

second semester. Also, there is a monthly BikeRide social, that will
meet at RIBs (530 W Buffalo) at 10am on Sundays (6/17, 7/22 and 8/19).
These will be leisurely road rides of 25-35 miles. Please join us!
Contact BobWölfé above for more info.
Location:
The first meeting will be June 5th at 7:30-8:30pm at No Radio Records (312E Seneca) but we are hoping to move classes to various agreed upon locales around town. Contact the facilitators for this weeks location and readings.
