"Sir, No Sir!" screening & discussion

Saturday, 11 November 2006
7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Organizer: Ithaca Unitarian Social Justice Council & Durland Alternativ

The acclaimed documentary film "Sir! No Sir!: The Suppressed Story of the GI Movement To End the War in Vietnam" will have its first public showing in Ithaca on Saturday, Nov. 11 (Veteran' Day) at 7:30 in the Unitarian Church of Ithaca (corner of Aurora and Buffalo Streets). Co-sponsored by the Ithaca Unitarian Social Justice Council and the Durland Alternatives Library. An open discussion will follow the 90-minute screening. Donations are invited, and proceeds will benefit health care for veterans.

Sir! No Sir! reveals the untold story of the GI movement to end the war in Vietnam. This is the story of one of the most vibrant and widespread upheavals of the 1960s - one that had a profound impact on American society, yet has been virtually obliterated from the collective memory of that time. The hidden
history portrayed in this film combines fast-paced archival footage with thoughtful interviews. The magazine, Variety , states that given the current political climate Sir! No Sir! "is perfectly timed with new doubts about the Iraq War."

Sir! No Sir! is the latest project of film director David Zeiger. (http://www.sirnosir.com} It has won the Los Angeles Film Festival's Audience Award and the award for best documentary at the Hamptons Film Festival.
