Interfaith Peace Vigil

You are invited to join an Interfaith Peace Vigil in DeWitt Park on Wednesday, May 4, 7pm - 8:30pm. The organizing group has been moved to gather within a circle of prayer and unity in response to the violence and suffering of war, especially of our Arab and Muslim sisters and brothers in this country and around the world. We are equally concerned and pray for the welfare of US soldiers in Iraq and for the sacrifices made by their families.

In an attempt to make this gathering a genuine interfaith experience, the organizing group has sought input, advice, and feedback from many faith perspectives. Readings, prayers, and ritual will be shared from a variety of religious communities that express how they envision peace. We intend this event to represent a circle of support and respect in which we listen to each other, try to find our common ground with each other, and celebrate, in public witness, our passion for peace in the world.

There will be a designated space in the park for vigilers to place pictures, photos, and objects that represent the consequences of war and also the vision we bring to the creation of a world where peace flourishes. Participants may want to bring a chair.
