Cape Wind Farm Public Hearing

The Army Corps of Engineers will host public hearings to seek comments on the recently released Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the proposed Cape Wind offshore wind farm.

*Registration for the hearings begins one hour before the listed start time.

If you are unable to attend the hearings you can submit written comments to the Army Corps of Engineers by February 24, 2005. You can also submit more detailed written comments after testifying at a public hearing:

In 2001, Cape Wind Associates proposed to build a 130-turbine wind farm in federal waters in Nantucket Sound. It would be the first offshore wind farm in the U.S. and could generate enough renewable energy to meet 75% of Cape Cod's daily electricity needs - up to 454 megawatts of power. It would also be the region's first utility-scale renewable energy project.

The wind farm proposal has been undergoing a comprehensive environmental and public interest review. The review process is led by the Army Corps of Engineers, in consultation with 16 other federal and state resource agencies. The Army Corps recently released the 4,000-page Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project, kicking off a 105-day public comment period and announcing public hearings scheduled during the first two weeks of December. Written comments are due February 24, 2005. At the end of the comment period, the Army Corps will review and respond to comments, revisit the Draft EIS, and issue a Final EIS before deciding whether to issue a permit for the project.
