Perdition: A Play in Two Parts, by Jim Allen
Tuesday, 16 November 2004
7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Organizer: Dialogue Theatre Group
Dialogue Theatre Group presents Jim Allen's searing indictment of the collaboration of the Zionist leaders of Hungary's Jewish community in the Nazi extermination programme, in exchange for the Nazis allowing 700 of the community's notables to proceed to Palestine via Switzerland. The play was censored shortly before Ken Loach's production was due to be performed at the Royal Court in London in 1987.
Noam Chomsky wrote at the time of this disgraceful concealment of the truth from us: "There are, incidentally, masses of material in Hebrew on the
unsavoury record of the Zionist movement with regard to the Nazis and the Holocaust victims." The role played by the Zionist leadership in Hungary
and Palestine is well documented, but hidden from a mass audience. Knowledge of the pre-state Zionist leadership's role in the Holocaust sheds light on the nature of Zionism itself.
