Ecumenical Discussion: Remedial Christianity

Rev. Sue Davis announces a new summer series - following the ecumenical discussions of the past three years that have been lively and meaningful to many of us. The basis is a book she highly recommends: "Remedial Christianity — What Every Believer Should Know about the Faith, but Probably Doesn't" by Rev. Dr. Paul Laughlin. Laughlin is an ordained minister, professor and chair of the department of religion and philosophy at Otterbein College.

Schedule of sessions: 10 Wednesday evenings, June 13 through August 22 (except July 4), from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Place: First UMC Endicott. You may order the book, or purchase it on Amazon.com: $13.60 new or $7.95 used. Please call the church office to register: 748-7434. Come when you can, even if vacations or other obligations interrupt your attendance. There is no cost for the series.


Selective quotes from the Bible have been used to justify slavery, war, oppression of women, condemnation of homosexuals, exclusive nationalism. Whether you consider yourself a believer or not, you may be interested in a very different framework for Biblical understanding.

This series will introduce some of the methods of historical-critical scholarship in biblical and religious studies, "placing the scriptural heart of the faith in its true historical context."

It will explore Christian Theism, the basic theological model of traditional Christianity (as well as of Judaism and Islam), and its alternatives. (Did you know there are alternatives within Christianity?) We will study Jesus of Nazareth and the Origins of Christianity; the Christ of Faith within the History of Christianity; Sin and Human Nature in the Christian Tradition; Grace and Salvation within the Christian Tradition; The Church, and the Churches from Pentecost to the Parousia (Second Coming of Christ); and Alternative Christian Views, the World's Religions, and the Future of the Faith.

Concierto del cantautor uruguayo Pablo Sciuto en Ermua

En el año 1998 decide probar suerte fuera de su país y viaja a Europa y después de haber recorrido gran parte del continente, edita en Barcelona su primer disco "Citylandia" (1999) con la colaboración de Hugo Amaya en saxo. Un disco con sendas influencias de bossa nova, jazz y tango, pincelado con letras profundas con gran dosis de existencialismo.
A mediados del 2000 se encuentra en Madrid con nuevas canciones, presentando su nuevo material rico en sonidos afro-brasileños en numerosas salas del circuito madrileño. Fue ganador del concurso AMI con su tema "La Esencia",

מחנה הבניה החמישי של הועד הישראלי נגד הריסת בתים

מאמין/ה בבניית קשרי שלום בין ישראלים ופלסטינים ?

הריסת בתים

מזה 40 שנה ישראל מיישמת מדיניות הריסת בתים כאמצעי לחץ על תושבים פלסטינים, בעיקר
במזרח ירושלים, כסוג של 'טרנספר שקט'. מאז 1967 מדינת ישראל הרסה, לפי מידע מתועד, כ-
18,000 בתים בשטחים הכבושים.

משנת 2000 ועד היום נהרסו 5,376 בתים בשטחים הכבושים, מתוכם 481 בירושלים בלבד. אלפי
בתים נוספים נמצאים תחת איום הריסה. כל בית הרוס זו משפחה הרוסה אחת, לפחות!

בניית בתים

מדי שנה אנו מארגנים מחנה בנייה, ומקימים יחד בית חדש למשפחה שביתה נהרס. בזמן של
שבועיים נבנה בית חדש מהיסודות ועד לגג, ונמסור את המפתח למשפחה. זוהי פעולה של התנגדות
אזרחית לא-אלימה, הבאה להביע קול מחאה לכיבוש הישראלי ולנישול הקהילה הפלסטינית מאדמתה
ומורשתה. מעבר למסר של סולידריות, דו שיח וחברות, זו דרך לעזור למשפחה שעברה טראומה קשה
ונותרה חסרת גג.

איך בונים בית ב-14 יום?

כפי שעשינו במחנות הקודמים - עם הרבה זיעה, רצון טוב, ליווי של צוות מקצועי והשתתפות של
מתנדבים בינלאומים, פלסטינים וישראלים (את/ה!)

פעילות במחנה

למשתתפי המחנה תהייה הזדמנות ללמוד על ה'עובדות בשטח' של הסכסוך הישראלי-פלסטיני,
במפגשי ערב עם דמויות פוליטיות, פעילים, אקדמאיים ואמנים, כמו גם ארגונים העובדים על
מנת להשתית שלום צודק בין ישראל והרשות, סרטים על הסכסוך וסיורים מודרכים למקומות שונים
של השטחים הכבושים, בירושלים ובישראל.

ישראלים מוזמנים להצטרף לימי עבודה כיחידים או כקבוצות, לפי תאום מראש

מתי מחנה הבניה נמשך מ- 14/7 עד שבת 28/7 (טקס חנוכת הבית החדש ייערך ביום
ראשון- 29/7).

(יש ימים בהם דרושים יותר מתנדבים - אנא תתקשרו בהקדם לתאם איתנו!)

הסעות יוצאות מדי בוקר וצהריים מירושלים (השער החדש מול נוטרדם) וחוזרות מדי ערב.

ניתן להגיע גם ברכב פרטי (5 דקות מהגבעה הצרפתית).

Puppet Show and Puppet Making

See the PUNCH and JUDY puppet show, starting at 4 PM. Punch is having a hard time, and is being a bad boy. Or is he so bad? Judy tries to knock some sense into him. How will Punch deal with teachers, bosses, cops and mean dogs? Come and see.

at 4\:45 Kids of all ages can come and make puppets with us using simple materials\: bags, paper plates, construction paper. You get to keep the puppet you make.
