BUSTAN Invites You to a Press Tour:

60 Years of Darkness for the

Unrecognized Villages in the Negev

Launch of The Children's Power Project - Providing Solar Energy

for Children with Medical Needs

"The Children's Power Project provides solar energy in cases where there are sick children whose health care requires electricity to power medical equipment. This project highlights the policy of discrimination and neglect on the part of the government towards her own citizens. We hold the state accountable for this sad situation, and believe that the purveyance of basic infrastructure for these villages, such as electricity, is the state's legal and moral responsibility. For 60 years, 45 Bedouin villages in the Negev have remained unrecognized by the state! 60 years of neglect and disregard. These 45 villages do not appear on any official map, and their inhabitants, citizens of the state, suffer from the lack of basic infrastructure such as electricity, water, transportation, garbage removal, green spaces and health services.”

Raed Al-Mickawi, Director, BUSTAN

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

· Tour will begin at 10 AM and end at 3 PM at the Central Bus Station in Beersheva , in front of the gas station.

· Meet the families and ill children in unrecognized villages who are receiving solar-powered energy to meet their health needs since they do not receive electricity from the state.

· Learn more about the Children’s Power Project and the situation in the unrecognized villages from BUSTAN (a local NGO), Interdan (the solar system provider), and local leaders.

· Delicious Bedouin lunch!

Space is limited – please confirm attendance and transportation needs by March 16
