This is Devorah’s first brief visit back to Israel since she left last year. She will discuss her recent research and writing on:



GREENING THE DESERT: History, Ecology, and Control



“It's vital to examine how clashing cultures and incongruous ecologies are dimensions of the Middle East conflict, too often muted. "Green" forests, nature reserves, and national parks in Israel – convey a strong, progressive message of development, environmental awareness, and a higher quality of life for all the country's citizens. But for precisely these reasons "Green" conceals Israel's political goals of hegemony behind a facade of beautification schemes and seemingly innocuous environmental devices such as land reclamation to colonize natural resources.”

About Devorah Brous: Devorah founded BUSTAN in 1999. An American Israeli, she holds two master’s degrees in Israel Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. She is an internationally renowned speaker and writer on the conflict between Israel and the Bedouin, “greenwashing” and the political and strategic aspects of environmental policies in the region.



About BUSTAN: BUSTAN is an Israeli NGO working in the Bedouin and Jewish communities in the Negev region of Israel. Through education and action, BUSTAN promotes sustainability, equal rights and fair resource allocation for all residents of the region.

זה הביקור הקצר הראשון של דבורה בישראל מאז שיא עזבה שנה שעברה. היא תספר על המחקר הנוכחי שלה והכתיבה שלה בנושא:



הורקת המדבר: היסטוריה, אקולוגיה ושליטה



"זה חיוני לבחון כיצד תרבויות מתנגשות ואקולוגיות לא מתאימות מהוות ממדים של הסכסוך במזרח התיכון, אולם לא זוכות להתייחסות הראויה. יערות "ירוקים", שמורות טבע ופארקים לאומיים בישראל – מעבירים מסר חזק של פיתוח, מודעות סביבתית ואיכות חיים גבוהה יותר עבור כל אזרחי המדינה. אבל בדיוק מאותן סיבות "ההורקה" מסווה את המטרות הפוליטיות של ישראל להגמוניה, מאחורי חזית של תוכניות לייפוי וזיוף של כלים סביבתיים בלתי מזיקים, כגון השבחה של קרקע לשם שעבוד משאבים טבעיים.

על דבורה בראוס: דבורה ייסדה את בוסתן בשנת 1999. היא אמריקאית ישראלית בעלת שני תארי מאסטר בלימודי ישראל ולימודי סכסוכים ושלום. היא דוברת ידועה בעולם וכותבת על הסכסוך בין ישראל והבדואים, "שטיפה ירוקה" והאספקטים הפוליטיים והאסטרטגיים של מדיניות סביבתית באזור.



על בוסתן: בוסתן הינה חברה ישראלית לתועלת הציבור, הפועל בקרב הקהילות הבדואיות והיהודיות באזור הנגב בישראל. באמצעות חינוך ופעולה, בוסתן מקדם בר קיימות, שוויון זכויות והקצאת משאבים הוגנת לכל תושבי האזור.
