Howard Zinn - Reinventing Peace: Making it a Reality After 9/11

Wednesday, 08 December 2004
8:00 PM - 9:30 PM

Organizer: Johns Hopkins University

Dr. Zinn, Professor Emeritus of Boston University, is most widely known for his revolutionary work, A Peoples History of the United States 1492-Present which explains history from the perspective of the powerless and disenfranchised - a perspective often ignored in textbooks. He is regarded as a respected, insightful and acclaimed social critic and historian. In addition to his extensive commentary, he is an activist for positive change. After growing up in the immigrant slums of Brooklyn, NY he served in WWII and then went on to teach at the Spellman College, a historically black college, and finally at Boston University. He has also been at the forefront of the civil rights and anti-war movements.

In a nation still suffering the wounds of domestic attack, Howard Zinn believes America can preserve its existence through peaceful means. But what hope is there for peace in the future? Does America have a flawed understanding of the world and international relations? What can the leadership today do to curb future domestic attack? Is America on the right track, or are we following a policy of greater violence and lesser hope? With his great knowledge and strong beliefs, Howard Zinn is sure to make an impact for peace.
